Abstract
Language in Kindergarten Class is a newly developed language program for kindergarten classes in Denmark. The program includes: a) general language stimulation based on philosophical dialogues for all pupils in the class; b) a language assessment test; c) focused language stimulation in the school and in the home; and d) a language summer camp for pupils who are assessed as non-language ready at the end of the school year. The program, which is developed for the Danish Ministry of Education, is available for all kindergarten classes in Denmark – and it is obligatory in kindergarten classes at schools where more than 30 pct. of the pupils live in an exposed residential area. It entails a novel approach to language assessment.
