Abstract

For a number of years, homeownership rates have been increasing with increasing GDP per capita in most European countries, but not in Denmark after 2000. How has increased real incomes kept demand for rental housing up in Denmark? The present paper takes a closer look at the Danish development to find explanations for this, and starts out - based on information from a 20 per cent sample of Danish dwellings - to give some indications of the future demand for rental housing in Denmark.
