Abstract
The understanding of the smart buildings in urban spaces covers various aspects of the smart buildings in relation to the urban spaces. This chapter introduces four aspects that are strongly interconnected: the software and hardware of the smart building systems, building types in the urban spaces, permits and standards for smart buildings, and smart building market potentials. A case study of the smart buildings in the Philippines is discussed in each section to provide an overview and understanding.
