Abstract
This chapter takes its impetus from a Danish university’s ‘Principles for the internationalisation of university education’ (hereafter referred to as the Internationalisation strategy). The Internationalisation strategy was launched in 2018 and includes service level and pedagogic implications for programmes of study in the University of Southern Denmark’s (SDU) five faculties. Prior to this Internationalisation strategy, SDU focused on increasing recruitment of international staff and students, and SDU student and staff mobility. Strategies signal the need for action and responsibility for implementation. Faced with these implementation requirements, university teachers and programme of study leaders often seek support from in-house experts, accessing professional development courses and consultancy. Here I offer an insight into how the Centre for Teaching and Learning is supporting the Internationalisation at Home (IAH) objective from SDU’s internationalisation strategy. The chapter includes an introduction to the design and content of the blended learning course on implementing IAH at course and programme levels and an example of how the Faculty of Engineering has embedded IAH in an inter-disciplinary course more by default than design. However, IAH vies for attention with other educational strategies including employability, digitalisation and working with the Sustainable Development Goals. In search of a way forward for IAH, competing strategies are replaced with a suggestion for an integrated strategy approach.
