Abstract

The proposed model enumerates and discusses the factors that should be taken into account before applying Blockchain technology for peer-to-peer electricity trading. In the suggested concept, power is produced using solar energy, and consumption and production data are among other things utilized to price electricity in a double auction, in which sellers offer their pricing and buyers make their bids simultaneously. The use of Blockchain technology allows real-time monitoring of consumption and production, and real-time trading where third parties are not necessary. It also has the potential to maximize profits from the perspective of prosumers and minimize energy losses. Considering Finland, it is already possible to see that customer segments are delimited into subgroups within cities and require the involvement of the electricity company, awareness at the state level and investment in pilot projects.
