Abstract

Digitalization is transforming the industrial landscape. Smarter products, data services, and new business models promise to reshape all types of manufacturing industries. However, the excitement on the potential outcomes of industrial players’ digitalization is proportionate to the number of unexpected tensions and uncertainty that it generates. Much has been written on the potential benefits, but much less on the navigation strategies that could guide the transition for such types of firms. In our research, we draw from a multiple-case study with Danish industrial firms (Danfoss, Linak and Grundfos). The result is a nuanced description of the dimensions that associate industrial digitalization approaches with organizational characteristics and technological trajectories
