patients and their families. Thus, the aim was to identify health practices in Europe towards families of older patients with cancer and to detect any existing gaps in knowledge. Methods: Scoping review using the framework by Arksey and OʼMalley and the Joanna Briggs Institute´s recommendations. Articles that met the inclusion criteria of having cancer patients and their families, age over 65 years and focusing on health practices in Europe, were included. A total of 1602 articles were found and finally 12 were included. Results: Health practices towards families of older patients with cancer are not clearly defined and family interventions in cancer are mostly based in the end of life care (N= 9; 75%). Most studies used a qualitative approach (N= 11, 92%), involved different types of family members as participants, and used a variety of data collection methods: individual and family interviews, interview with healthcare professionals, observations and interview with key advocates from cancer organizations. Most studies were conducted in the UK (N=8; 66%), one was multi-country including the UK, one
study was developed in Cyprus, one in Norway, and one in Denmark.
Conclusions: This review shows that studies poorly displayed the type of health practices directed to families of older patients with cancer which made it difficult to synthesize the findings. This review highlights the need for European clinical guidelines that promote family assessment and intervention, throughout the
phases of the cancer trajectory, and that reduce disparity influencing family health and geriatric oncology in Europe.
