Abstract

Focused lung ultrasound is increasingly utilized in the emergency setting. The modality allows the physician to dichotomously assess the presence of conditions often related to acute symptoms, such as dyspnoea, chest pain or cough. Further, as patients are not exposed to radiation and a complete examination may be conducted in less than five minutes in experienced hands, there are no absolute contraindications. In this review, we summarize the clinical indications, necessary preparations, and the interpretation of the most common findings related to focused lung ultrasound of the patient with respiratory symptoms.
