Abstract

Some eighty speeches by Dio of Prusa (first to second century AD) have been preserved, most of them dealing with lofty philosophical themes, but also a dozen municipal orations from Dio's period as an active local politician in Prusa ad Olympum, a small provinicial town in western Asia Minor. These provide us with a unique insight into the political and rhetorical aspect of local politics in the Roman era.
