Abstract

This paper discusses the design, analysis and experimental demonstration of a planar transformer for a compact 5 kW isolated dc-dc converter. In the proposed converter, a 200 kHz planar transformer is used with a turnâ™s ratio of 8:1. Analytical evaluation of planar transformer alone becomes more complicated and time consuming. In order to evaluate the performance of such transformer designs, a finite element simulation software is often required. In this paper, COMSOL Multiphysics simulation along with experimental verification are been presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed planar transformer.
