Abstract

New automation equipment containing mechanics, electronics and ICT are often complex, where new digitalization tools can increase the development speed and quality. Here digital twins and virtual commissioning play an important role in the design, development and test phases. This paper introduces a structured approach for combining digital modelling, simulation, and virtual commissioning before physical implementation. The project is in collaboration with Siemens PLM/Factory Automation and a machine builder as a practical business case. The result is a standardized and structured process that demonstrate how combining different approaches increase the quality and innovation richness while developing a new machine.
