Arctic Drones: Remote Military Technologies for Remote Militarized Territories

There are many common misconceptions about ‘the Arctic’. Some are benign, like the throwaway assertion that penguins roam the region. Others are scientifically misguided, like the idea that the Arctic is a homogeneous space with comparable geography and geology across the entirety of the world’s most northerly expanse. And a few are politically contentious, like the idea that the Arctic is a ‘global commons’, intrinsically linked to the “interests of the international community as a whole”. The truth is that ‘there are many Arctics’, which may differ in language, culture, history, geography, geology, and the impact of climate change, but most of which fall squarely under the auspices of the eight Arctic nation states.
