Abstract

Alcohol is the primary cause of approximately 70-80% of liver diseases in Denmark. Stopping alcohol consumption before symptoms appear can prevent many liver diseases. Effective alcohol treatment is also cost-effective and can significantly improve liver function. This review suggests that healthcare professionals should identify and treat alcohol problems early, using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. Challenges include a lack of patient insight and the need for better-integrated treatment programmes.
