Abstract

This project was made possible through generous funding from Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF – 6109- 00123). Moreover, the digitization required many research assistant hours. Two of the authors of this paper started as research assistants, but we would also like to thank Peter Baunsgaard, Peter Gerner Ejersbo, Nick Ford, Jakob Baltzer Henriksen, Maja Uhre Pedersen, Andreas Slot Ravnholt, and Emil Nørmark Sørensen for extremely conscientious research assistance. Various iterations of this project have been presented at the Cork FRESH Meeting, the 4th HEDG Mini-Workshop for Young Scholars, the 2nd SDU Workshop on Economic and Business History, the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Danish Society for Economic and Social History, two DGPE workshops, and several times at the PhD seminar series of the Department of Business and Economics at the University of Southern Denmark. We would like to thank participants at these events for insightful questions and comments. Finally, we would like to express our appreciation for feedback from the editor and two anonymous reviewers who provided the best of constructive criticism and helped us to position our work more successfully within business history.
