Texture in membranes is
created when the in-plane orientation of tilted lipids is
organized into large-scale patterns. Texture induced by
protein binding is a potential mechanism for signaling
across biomembranes and for certain types of transport
into cells (endocytosis). To examine this hypothesis, this
project is focused on lipid-protein interactions and on
visualization of textures created by protein binding. We
have initiated collaboration with a world-leading group
at Institut Curie (Paris) to use Shiga toxin to study
protein-induced texture.
