Tele-GLA:D (An Exercise First project*)

Due to the extraordinary events of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, finding alternate delivery models of treatment has come to the forefront of public health services worldwide. In this regard, web-based treatment and care have become an integral part of public health services. Because of the given promising results on web-based rehabilitation and exercise on, for example, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease patients’ physical capacity and psychosocial state, there is reason to believe that web-based exercise and education can be used as a viable treatment option in other patient groups, such as patients with knee arthritis (OA). Considering that supervised exercise and patient education have a positive effect on knee OA symptoms and is considered a first-line treatment in knee OA, it is worthwhile to explore the potential benefits of delivering this treatment digitally. As such, Slagelse and Naestved Hospitals, Region Zealand, Denmark has established a treatment option for patients with knee OA, consisting of supervised exercise and education delivered digitally. As this is a new treatment delivery option for this patient group, there is a distinct lack of knowledge about how these patients experience participating in this treatment delivery model. Therefore, this study aims to explore how patients with knee OA experience participating in web-based exercise and education.
Participants: This project is an affiliation between the research unit PROgrez and Region Zealand.
