The goal of this exploratory workshop series is to take first steps towards understanding if and how histories of forced migrations have shaped the Nordic region. Moreover, we will explore gaps and silences in histories of forced migration and how memory politics influence what is memorized (or forgotten) over time in regard to these movements. We argue that to marginalize histories of forced migrations – histories of refugees, displaced people, and deportees – from national narratives is to ignore a constitutive element of the way Nordic nation-states have been imagined and formed in the 20th century
