CrowdsourceHerBook - Women's book history and participatory science

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

rowdsourceHerBook project, a participatory science initiative that aims to source images of women-owned books printed before 1900 in private ownership. Anybody in possession of such books can submit them and share any complementary knowledge on the books and their former owners, and thus contribute to the study of women’s historical engagement with book culture.

The scientific aim of the project is twofold. On a methodological level, it tests out the usefulness of participatory science methods for studying book history. On a more practical level, it will compile a dataset of women owned books in private ownership – otherwise inaccessible to researchers – that can be analysed by book historians.

The project is based at the University of Southern Denmark and forms part of the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network From antiquity to community. Re-thinking classical heritage through citizen humanities (Grant Agreement No. 101073543).
