Research areas

Dr. Thomas Rostgaard Andersen, MSc, PhD. CSci, is a chartered scientist and an assistant professor in elite football and performance the University of Southern Denmark. He is regularly publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals focusing on testing and performance changes in high-level football.

He is a BASES accredited high-performance sports and exercise scientist, and has since 2006 been head of performance in several Danish premier league football clubs and is a former fitness coach for the Danish FA U21 men’s national team.

Currently, he supports international-level football clubs and individual athletes, and is a scientific advisor to the Danish female and male youth national teams.

Research Interests

  1. Performance testing and profiling of elite athletes with special reference to runners and team sport athletes (football players).
  2. Performance enhancements, health adaptations and prevention of life-style related disease with intensified training.
  3. Training adaptations in skeletal muscle protein expression following high-intensity training and strength training.
