Research interests

Dr. Thomas Rostgaard Andersen, MSc, PhD., is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Southern Denmark and a UEFA A-licensed football coach. He is regularly publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals focusing on testing and physical performance changes in football at the elite level. He has since 2006 been head of performance in several Danish premier league football clubs and is a former fitness coach for the Danish FA U21 men’s national team. Currently, he is physical advisor to high-level football clubs and individual athletes, and the lead fitness coach to the Danish female and male youth national teams.

Research areas

  1. Performance testing and profiling of elite athletes with special reference to runners and team sport athletes (football players).
  2. Performance enhancements, health adaptations and prevention of life-style related disease with intensified training.
  3. Training adaptations in skeletal muscle protein expression following high-intensity training and strength training.
