Personal profile
Research areas
I'm a philosopher who currently works as a postdoc within the project Wellbeing and Virtual Worlds at department of philosophy at University of Southern Denmark. In this project, I carry out a qualitative phenomenological analysis of dedicated users of virtual worlds, along with how this use influences their wellbeing.
My main areas of expertise and interests range from applied to historical and systematic philosophy including:
- Philosophy of medicine & psychiatry: In addition to other subjects within philosophy of health, my research has revolved around the nature and phenomenology of health and disease along with definitions thereof. I am also particularly interested in the philosophy and sciences of the psyche along with its disorders. One focal point concerns the way that we classify and diagnose mental problems, and how individuals react to the classifications or labels attached to them. Furthermore, I also research epistemic injustices within healthcare contexts like hermeneutical injustices of overdiagnosis.
- History of philosophy: I am also highly interested in the philosophy of antiquity (especially Greek thought) along with modern European philosophy such as existentialism and phenomenology. In my research, I try to combine these interests with my expertise within philosophy of medicine, for example, in investigating the influence of Descartes on modern medical thought and practice.
- Qualitative philosophical analyses: I have a general interest in applied philosophy, but one particular point of expertise concerns philosophically driven qualitative analyses. E.g., I have collaborated with psychologists in a study on the attitudes of psychology students towards existentially oriented therapy.
