Terence E. Warner BSc(Hons) PGDip PhD CChem FRSC

Terence Warner is Associate Professor of Materials Chemistry at the University of Southern Denmark. He was born and brought up at Bath in south-west England; a region renowned for its classical geology, where he first became interested in mineralogy. He read chemistry with geochemistry at the University of York. After graduating in 1982, he was awarded a postgraduate diploma in mineral engineering, and a doctorate for his thesis on the extractive hydrometallurgy of nickel sulfide minerals from the University of Leeds. Prior to his present position, he held research posts in materials science at the Max-Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, and at the Universities of Cambridge and Leeds. In 2004, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Research areas

Terence Warner's research interests lie within the interrelated disciplines of chemistry, mineralogy and materials science, with a focus on the chemical aspects of electroceramic materials. His research fields include electrochemistry, hydrometallurgy, superconductors, fast ion conductors, electrochemical sensors for use in molten metals, and novel processes for making advanced ceramics and artificial minerals. A continuing theme has been the role of applying interdisciplinary knowledge to solving various technological problems; combined with a quest for discovering and exploiting the properties of new inorganic crystalline phases. Current research projects include materials for energy conversion and environmental protection.

He is author of the textbook: Synthesis, Properties and Mineralogy of Important Inorganic Materials, Wiley, 2011
