Research information

Core Academic Focus / Core Expertise
My research is rooted in literary studies, with a particular focus on ecocriticism, Romanticism studies, gender theory, and world literature. I combine sociological and formalist perspectives to examine how literature – both historical and contemporary – shapes and is shaped by social, cultural, ecological, and discursive contexts.

Research Contributions
My work has primarily explored literary reception and the fairy tale genre, with a particular emphasis on Hans Christian Andersen’s works analyzed through contemporary analytical and theoretical approaches. I have contributed to revitalizing Andersen scholarship and positioning it within an international academic framework. Additionally, I have played a role in introducing international ecocriticism, particularly dark ecology, to Denmark, which influenced Nordic environmental humanities in the 2010s. My research has also examined how cultural heritage is used to construct, sustain, and challenge collective identities.
I have an extensive network within Danish literary studies, cultural studies, postcolonial studies, and gender studies, as well as an international network in Romanticism studies, Scandinavian studies, world literature, and environmental humanities.

Current Research
I am currently working on the project Hans Christian Andersen as World Literature (2022–2025), which explores Andersen’s global significance and seeks to position Danish literature within a world literary context. Additionally, I plan to expand my network within national and international adaptation and translation studies.
