Research contributions and core interests - briefly

My research in second language learning scrutinizes the intricate relationship between situated, social practice and language development. This resulted in a ground-breaking, award-winning
methodology combining usage-based linguistics and conversation analysis which has recently evolved into a new research framework for investigating interactional competence. I have been central to the field's current interest in "language learning in the wild", which investigates how people learn languages outside of institutional contexts and how this can be brought to bear on classroom practices. I have also done research on early English learning and teaching in
Denmark. My work is published in major journals and edited volumes, and I have been a keynote speaker at major international conferences. My work continues to spur international interest, and I
have two monographs (one co-authored and one single-authored) under contract (Routledge).
