Personal profile

Research Interests

Dr. Sune Vork Steffensen (Ph.D. 2007, Aarhus University) is Professor of Language, Interaction, and Cognition at the University of Southern Denmark and serves as Chair of the Humanities at the Danish Institute for Advanced Study. His research explores the complex interplay between human cognition and language, specifically how thinking and speaking mediate interactions between individuals, groups, and societies with their social and material environments.

As an internationally recognized leader in ecolinguistics, Dr. Steffensen has developed a highly transdisciplinary approach that integrates radical embodied and distributed cognitive science, ecological and dialogical linguistics, and Marxist anthropology. His significant contributions to radical embodied cognitive science focus on language's role in human thinking and the application of qualitative methodologies—particularly cognitive ethnography and cognitive event analysis—to understand cognitive dynamics between human agents and their social and material environment.

Dr. Steffensen's scholarly portfolio includes six edited volumes and over 80 articles and book chapters. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Language Sciences.
