Stine Thestrup Hansen is Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing at the University of Southern Denmark and Research Lead at the Department of Plastic and Breast Surgery, Zealand University Hospital. Stine’s primary research area concerns the care and treatment of plastic and breast surgery patients across the entire surgical pathway. The research focuses on the development, evaluation, and implementation of evidence-based practices that support prehabilitation, recovery, health-related quality of life, and continuity of care, and is conducted in close collaboration with interdisciplinary clinical and academic partners across professions and sectors.

A central component of Stine’s research is the use of patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) as an integral part of clinical practice. This includes methodological research on the translation and validation of PROM instruments, as well as assessments of feasibility and implementation in clinical settings. Particular attention is given to how PROMs can be meaningfully integrated into interdisciplinary clinical workflows to support clinical dialogue and quality improvement, while addressing methodological, organizational, and ethical considerations.

Stine has extensive experience in teaching and supervision within health sciences and provides methodological supervision to master’s and PhD students, with specific expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research and interdisciplinary research design. Stine serves as course lead for an elective in the Master’s programme in Health Sciences at the University of Southern Denmark, focusing on the application of patient-reported outcomes in research and clinical practice. In addition, Stine is actively engaged in national and international research collaborations and interdisciplinary research networks related to surgical care and cancer nursing.
