Research areas

Drawing on my background as a sociologist, I conduct research at the intersection of conceptual theory development and practice-oriented, politically relevant knowledge. My work is grounded in ethnographic methods and explores how power, knowledge, community, and quality of life are enacted in everyday encounters, spaces, and relationships.

A distinctive feature of my research is its interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach to knowledge production. I work across paradigms, with particular attention to the role of the senses in both experience and understanding. I have developed and contributed original theoretical perspectives in three key areas: everyday life satisfaction, informal encounters, and power relations within sensory and social structures.

A consistent thread throughout my career has been a critical stance towards conventional forms of academic dissemination – and a commitment to finding more inclusive, sensory, and meaningful ways of sharing knowledge.

My research and dissemination practices often integrate academic insight with lived experience and reflect a deep personal commitment to sustainability, manual work, and socially responsible knowledge practices. This is an approach I both live and teach – in research collaborations, in the classroom, and in my personal life. For example, I initiated the creation of a sculpture park dedicated to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and founded a micro-spinning mill that combines my interest in materiality, community, and sustainability – serving as a living laboratory for both thought and practice.
