Personal profile

Research areas

My research bridges between epistemology, learning theory, and cognitive theory. It does so both philosophically and in terms of the development and testing of concrete designs for learning in practice. I have developed the methodological approach of dialogic philosophizing with to allow the synthesis of philosophical investigations, empirical studies and design research. This approach has been used in several international projects, led by me, including two funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF): Designing for situated knowledge in a world of change (2015-2020) and Designing for situated computational thinking with computational things (2020-2025).

These projects have resulted in the development of novel philosophical conceptualizations of, respectively, knowledge and computational thinking, in tandem with innovative educational formats now implemented in the Danish educational system.

I lead the research group Learning, Design and Digitalization at my department.

Likewise, I am Head of the Center for Learning Computational  Thinking, which includes researchers from the Humanities and the Natural Sciences.

Research Interests

My research centers on questions such as what human knowledge is, how it is developed, how one can facilitate others in developing knowledge, and what roles technology can play. I approach these questions from an interdisciplinary stance, from the intersection of philosophy, digital technology studies and practice research.

Increasingly, I am taken up with the question how human, embodied being manifests in and draws on digital spaces.
