Research areas

Niels Buus’ primary area of research is the study of lay perspectives on illness and treatment with a particular emphasis on issues influencing whether they follow the advice given by healthcare professionals. Secondary areas of research include clinical supervision of mental health nursing staff, interventions after suicide and suicide attempts, and nurses’ professional identity.

Niels has primarily worked with qualitative methods, but in several analysis he has combined qualitative methods with quantitative methods in “mixed methods” designs
