Research Interests

I am currently working on my PhD project in which I explore the lived experience of people who have recently been granted refugee status in Denmark. In my project, I follow the pathways of 8 refugees in the initial period after settling down in a Danish municipality drawing on in-depth interviews and participant observations of their encounters with caseworkers responsible for their so-called integration programme. The aim is to explore what they consider to be important for their overall well-being in this period of time and how they experience the Danish public system's attempt to meet their diverse needs. Moreover, I interview caseworkers in order to investigate the ways in which the Danish public system understand, detect, consider, and follow up on mental health needs of newly arrived refugees.
