Research Interests

Maria Pizzorni is a PhD candidate at the UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience (SDU.Resilience) at the University of Southern Denmark. Her research focuses on the interplay of floods and droughts in cities. She is developing a multi-hazard analysis framework to analyze the common drivers and shared impacts of these compound and consecutive hazards.

During her studies, she developed a strong interest in sustainable urban development, climate change adaptation, and cultural heritage protection. Working as a Research Assistant at SDU.Resilience, she contributed to research on national climate policies (collab. with UN-Habitat, UNDP, and AfDB) and has developed an interest in water and human settlements—a focus area of the research group for which she is now responsible.

Currently, Maria Pizzorni is working on her PhD project, titled "Planning for Urban Resilience: A Multi-Hazard Approach for Floods and Droughts in Cities," and she is teaching a Sustainable Urban Development course, BSc Architectural and Civil Engineering, SDU.
