Personal profile

Research areas

My area of expertise is within public libraries as social and cultural institutions. However, the areas and scopes of my research are highly interdisciplinary. I hold a PhD in Library and Information Science from the University of Copenhagen. My PhD thesis (2021) focuses on the history of public library programs and programming activity from a Danish and international perspective. I have published research on the social and societal role of public libraries, especially concerning sustainability, the UN 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, social inclusion, and the proactive roles of library professionals as agents of change.

In my research, I aim for a relation with and possible impact on the practice and future development of the library field and institutions. Therefore, it is central for me to collaborate with practitioners, researchers, and research groups both in Denmark and internationally. I am affiliated with the international research group Public Libraries for Immigrants and Refugees (PubLIB) and a Danish Research Network around Universal Design (UD) under the auspices of the Bevica Foundation.

My current research interests include integration, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), organizational change, and the professional development and roles of library workers. A new research interest is the unfolding of the relational aspects of librarianship, including a focus on the concept of care, community, and inclusivity.
