Curriculum

N. Meltem Daysal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business and Economics at the University of Southern Denmark and a Research Fellow at IZA. Before joining SDU, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Econometrics & Operations Research at Tilburg University. She received her B.A. in Economics from Bogazici University in 2003, and her Ph.D. in Economics from University of Maryland, College Park in 2009. Professor Daysal's main research is in the fields of health economic. One line of her work examines the impact of health insurance coverage on health outcomes and health care delivery. In another line of research, she investigates the role that medical innovations, technology and information have on health and labor market outcomes. A third area of interest on health policy concerns the impact of various social policies on health behavior. Prof. Daysal also has a narrowly defined interest in labor economics focused on immigration policy. Part of her work in this area focuses on the impact of immigration on native outcomes beyond the labor market. In a related line of work, she examines how language proficiency impacts the health and educational outcomes of limited language proficient individuals, as well as their families and peers. Professor Daysal teaches Health Economics at the PhD level. She previously taught courses on applied econometrics at the graduate level and econometric methods at the upper undergraduate level.
