The kidney plays an essential role in regulating blood pressure and water balance by amending the urinary excretion of water and electrolytes, in conditions of deprivation or excess. Dysregulation of these processes can severely affect blood pressure, alter systemic fluid balance, and impair the maintenance of serum electrolytes within normal range.
The aim of our research is to understand the molecular mechanisms regulating channels and transporters that are involved in these processes, hereby particularly focusing on the molecular regulation of the thiazide-sensitive sodium chloride transporter NCC and the water channel Aquaporin-2 in kidney, during physiological and pathological conditions.
