Research areas
Research Overview: My research sits at the intersection of educational data science and knowledge mobilization, leveraging computational methods and social network analysis to understand how knowledge flows through educational systems and digital spaces. I apply data science approaches to trace, analyze, and enhance the pathways through which educational research, policy, and practice connect and influence one another.
Educational Data Science: I employ advanced analytical methods—including social network analysis, natural language processing, and mixed methods approaches—to make sense of complex educational phenomena in digital environments. My work demonstrates how computational techniques can reveal hidden patterns in how educators interact, learn, and share knowledge on social media platforms, transforming large-scale social media data into actionable insights about professional learning and educational discourse.
Knowledge Mobilization and Brokerage: A central focus of my research is understanding how knowledge moves between research, policy, and practice. I investigate the strategies knowledge brokers use to build capacity in education systems, how educational science gets mapped and disseminated through social media discourse, and the mechanisms through which scientific information (from educational policy to public health topics like breastfeeding) diffuses through professional networks. This work reveals the critical role of social capital and network structures in facilitating or hindering knowledge flow.
Digital Networks and Educational Leadership: I examine how educational leaders navigate online and offline social networks, analyzing the "social continuum" that shapes contemporary educational leadership. My research uses network data to understand how school leaders mobilize knowledge during critical moments (such as the COVID-19 pandemic) and how Twitter conversations influence educational policy processes.
My methodological contributions advance mixed methods social network analysis as a framework for educational data science, published in leading journals including Teaching and Teacher Education, British Journal of Educational Technology, Teachers College Record, and Educational Technology Research and Development.
