Scientific focus areas

My research interest is in management of natural resources, with regards to natural resources under a common pool management as for example the marine ecosystem. However the resource cannot be considered in isolation. There is a social system that, subjected to the management initiatives, will interact with the resource. Integrated model couples the social system together with the ecosystem with relevant feed back process. Economics play a dual role here; economics explains/predicts how the agents react on the incentives provided by management system, society in general and the resource under consideration. Second, economics provides tools to evaluate the consequences of management initiatives through cost benefit or cost effectiveness analysis. Integrated models can be difficult to analysis as they are often to complex for analytical solutions. I have, in addition to the modeling work, worked with developing methods for analyzing complex models based on the marginal change of capital value.
