Research areas

My research interests:
My research interests are the relationship between social agency and social structural constraints between actors in compulsory school, and how educational inequality is related to larger social structures within the field of education such as socialization, school culture, upbringing, class, gender and ethnicity. I am currently working on my dissertation about the formation of teacher expectations about students in Danish compulsory schools and how teacher expectations are impacted by students characteristics. Most current publications include "Playful Learning During the Reopening of Danish Schools After Covid 19 Closures." and "Are We Pre-Theoretically Committed to Doxastic Voluntarism?".

My PhD project:
My PhD project investigates the role that students' forms of participation, student and teacher characteristics and teachers' attitudes and values play in the formation of teachers' expectations of students' academic performance in Danish compulsory schooling. The project places itself in the field of sociology of education. It seeks to describe and analyze the formation and composition of teachers' expectations of students', as an educational phenomenon. With the term formation, I refer to the process in which teachers assimilate, interpret and integrate different pieces of information they have about students, when forming expectations towards them, in both conscious and unconscious ways, and while including their own experiences, values and attitudes in the process (Rubie-Davies, 2014). The goal of the project is to answer the research question; "In what way do students forms of participation impact the formation of teachers' expectations about academic performance, in a Danish school setting?"
