Research Interests

Lars Hermann Tang is a researcher and physiotherapist with over 10 years of experience in rehabilitation and exercise for people with chronic conditions. He has particularly focused on rehabilitation interventions for individuals with cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, Lars has knowledge of how to tailor training and rehabilitation to different contexts and patient groups, as well as the benefits and barriers of using alternative training modes for people with chronic illnesses—whether it being digital, home-based, or in natural-based settings.

 

Furthermore, he possesses expertise in quality evaluation and improvement within rehabilitation and recovery, along with a deep understanding of the barriers and facilitating factors that impact cross-sector collaboration between hospitals, municipalities, and civil society. A collaboration that is crucial to ensure that individuals with chronic conditions and multimorbidity participate in rehabilitation and prevention programs and subsequently maintain an active and healthy life-style.

Lars is an associate professor in the research and implementation unit PROgrez at the Department of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Næstved-Slagelse-Ringsted Hospitals in Denmark. This unit comprises 50 researchers from 13 different professions. Additionally, Lars heads the ‘Physical Activity - Delivery, Participation, and Maintenance’ research cluster in PROgrez. Over the last few years, he has successfully co-led the Exercise First program, a 15.6 million Danish kroner research program that includes 19 research and implementation projects partly funded by Region Zealand. Exercise First has been very successful and has been extended with a permanent yearly operating grant of 9.5 million Danish kroner.

Moreover, Lars is affiliated with the University of York in the UK and has been an international representative and author on The National Audit of Cardiac Rehabilitation since 2015. This quality database combines data from nearly 300 cardiac rehabilitation programs across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and is used to improve rehabilitation services in the UK.
