Research areas

My research explores how adverse events in healthcare affect the professionals involved, with a focus on how these experiences shape clinical decision-making and broader life choices. I investigate whether such events lead to changes in practice—such as increased defensiveness or caution—and how they may influence career decisions, including leaving the profession or shifting to roles with less patient contact.

I have led the development, implementation, and evaluation of The Buddy Study, a peer support programme designed to support healthcare professionals affected by adverse events.

With a clinical background in midwifery, I also maintain a strong interest in maternity care and women's reproductive health, particularly regarding choice of birth place. I am committed to expanding and developing theoretical frameworks that enhance our understanding of what matters to women during childbirth.
