Research areas

I am an epidemiologist with a background as a vascular surgeon and a PhD in vascular surgery. My research focuses on population-based epidemiology across a broad range of health and disease outcomes, with particular interests in ageing and familial research, and the use of healthcare and medical treatment across the life course.

I primarily work with population-based cohorts and Danish nationwide health registers. A central part of my work is translating clinically meaningful questions and phenotypes into epidemiological study designs and interpreting findings in their clinical and population context.

My research draws on unique Danish population resources, including the Long Life Family Study, Danish population-based ageing cohorts, the Danish Twin Registry, and nationwide health registers. These data allow me to study health and disease from individual, family, cohort and population perspectives, depending on the research question. I am particularly interested in healthy ageing and familial longevity, patterns of health and disease across the life course, and whether healthcare and medical treatment are appropriate to the needs of older populations.
