Research Interests

My research in sport psychology takes a holistic approach and looks at social relations and their influence on athlete development and performance with an emphasis on successful talent development environments. I have played a major role in developing the Holistic Ecological Approach, which is now used to study talent development globally. I further research psychological aspects of human performance and mental health across multiple high-performance domains.

Complementary to my research, I am a sport psychology practitioner. In this function I focus on developing mentally strong athletes and coaches and high-performance cultures in national teams. I have supported athletes at numerous championships and four Olympic Games. This work was anchored in Team Denmark (2008-2025) and is now in private practice.

I see impact as much more than “an impact factor” and prioritize dissemination and engagement. I have had a very visible impact on and beyond Danish elite sport. My applied work allows for impactful research with access to international top level elite athletes. My research on the role of the sport environment has laid the foundation for much of the talent development and elite sport policy and initiatives in Denmark.
