Management and fund raising
At the University of Southern Denmark, Froberg has co-ordinated and being responsible for several European Thematic Network Projects, Nordic Higher Education projects, Tempus projects, European Master programs and Intensive programs in the last 28 years with budget from 25.000 € till 150.000 € per year. For this he has got an ERASMUS price in 2008. He has initiated and been in the management group of the EU-supported Thematic Network project, AEHESIS, which was supported for four years (2003-07) with a budget of around 3.5 mill DKK. The project was dealing with the development of European models of bachelor and master curriculum in four main areas of the sports sector: Coaching, Physical Education, Sport Management and Health and Fitness. This project has made the golden standard of curricula in the Sports Science area in the last 10 years in Europe including the Balkan countries through Tempus projects in the last 8 years.
The knowledge of assoc. prof. Froberg has been obtained by several National and European-based cross-country research projects since 1972. He has been doing research in the area of children’s sport and children’s physical activity and it’s relation to health since then. He has been dealing with major cross sectional as well as major longitudinal studies in this area, both national and international. In the period 1973-1993 he co-ordinated and conducted National research projects (Trainability in Children, Junior Elite Cyclists, the Odense School Child Study and The Svendborg Intervention Project). Since 1995 he has been in the scientific board of the international research project, the European Youth Heart Study I, II and III, where he until March 2015 has been the head of the international board. He was the initiator and the responsible co-ordinator of the project in Denmark. He was the co-initiator and is in the scientific board of The Copenhagen Schoolchild Intervention Study (CoSCIS). He was together with Assistant professor Anna Bugge been coordinating the project: ‘Studying movement and learning’, supported by the Danish Government, Ministry of Education with 800.000 €. He has together with Professor’s Lars Bo Andersen and Berit Heitmann been responsible for initiating the Centre of Research in Childhood health (www.sdu.dk/RICH). This Centre has been responsible for several international and national mixed longitudinal and intervention projects in relation to childhood health. Major grants in the last 15 years have passed 17 million €. From May 2007 until January 2015, he has been head of the center. The center is based on grants from national, private and governmental research foundations and has received around 18 million € until now.
Froberg has for many years been used as an expert in relation to physical activity and childhood health, and has therefore taken part in several interviews in newspapers, radio and TV. He has also had a numberof popular invited speeches each year in schools, societies and organizations in the last years.
