Research areas

Coronary heart disease i still one of the major causes of death in the world. High cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for developing coronary heart disease.

My research area is genetically elevated cholessterol known as familial hypercholesterolemia.

In my PhD project we investigate the following elements:

What is the effect of implenentation of an interpretive comment on substantially elevated cholesterol levels (corresponding to the current danish refferal criteria), on refferal rate to the lipid clinics in the region of Southern Denmark.

We work to validate the danish clinical quality database regarding familial hypercholesterolemia.

Furthermore we investigate the prevalence of subclinical atherosclerosis measured by vaskular ultrasound and coronary CT on patients with familial hypercholesterolemia  without currently known atherosclerosis. In an imbedded Randomised controlled trial wi ivenstigate the effect of showning the coronary CT imaing to the patients and test if such a simple internvention can lower the cholesterol levels among patients with familial hyperchoelsterolemia and in the future prevent premature cardiovaskular events.
