Social interaction and cognition, a member of SoPraCon (Center for Social Practises and Cognition)

I do research in sense-making in face-to-face interaction. Presently I focus on social interaction involving communicatively handicapped persons (people who are born with a handicap that affects their communicative abilities, people with aphasia, etc.). I am especially interested in the use of non-linguistics resources of sense-making (gesture, gaze, other kinds of body movements, communication aids, etc.). Together with Gitte R. Hougaard I am developing the Fused Bodies approach to embodied social interaction. The approach extends the concepts and typical analysis of conversation analysis and ethnomethodology, emphasises the presence and role of the whole body in face-to-face interaction and views social actions as social and “cognitive” at the same time. I have also done work that attempts to integrate conversation analytic analyses and concepts and from cognitive semantics.
