Personal profile

Research Interests

My research focuses on immigration to and integration in welfare states, with a particular emphasis on Denmark and Scandinavia. Using a multifaceted approach, I have examined integration policy developments, offering crucial insights into the migration-welfare nexus and political decision-making processes within the Nordic welfare states. My institutional analyses of immigrant policies have influenced both research in this field and policy debates. I have also expanded into the subfield of refugee studies through empirical and historiographical work, again addressing the Nordic context. More recently, I have pioneered studies on the statistical categorization processes within Danish and Nordic welfare states to shed light on the intricate mechanisms underlying such classifications.

Building on this foundation, my future research will focus on refugees' access to Denmark and how states respond to refugee crises. This work will investigate the evolving frameworks and practices shaping refugee admission and integration policies. By examining state reactions to crises, I aim to uncover the dynamic interplay between humanitarian obligations, political pressures, and welfare state structures, offering new insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by Denmark and other welfare states during times of crisis.
