Research Interests

Gitte Miller Balslev is associated professor in Educational Innovation at Science Education and Communication - FNUG - Departement of Mathematics and Computer Science at SDU, University of Southern Denmark. She has experience with research management as former head of the research center CESE - Center of Excellence in Science Education at University College Copenhagen.

Gitte holds a PhD in collaborative innovation in public sector education from Roskilde University, Denmark, and develops her research around STEM-related educational innovation on educational change through national reforms, educational leadership in reform realization, collaborative innovation and educational ecosystems from a network perspective - The NetEduProject. The NetEduProject is a cross-national research and development project across 15 nations investigating the potential of educational networks. In relation to an educational network perspective, research interest is also cast into understanding specific educational ecosystems around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic) networks.

Building on long practical experience and strong bonds to the Danish public educational system, Gitte builds on Engaged Scholarship (Van de Ven 2007) and forms research projects as collaborative endeavors between multiple practitioners, professions and researchers. Gitte has built up social capital in the areas of education, innovation and organization by facilitated major changes stretching from institutional to municipal and national level.

At SDU Gitte also works with developing university teaching with connection to the UN goals of sustainability and has developed new master programs on pedagogical change management in and around public schooling. Furtheremore Gitte is associated at Center for Primary and Lower Secondary Education Research, SDU investigating organization and leadership of Eco-schools in relation to green societal transition.
