Research information

In my PhD dissertation, The Work of Art in the Age of Automation: The Situationist Movement, 1956-1968 (SDU, 2020), I focused on changes to the ‘work of art’ during the postwar economic, technological and political restructuring of capitalism. A book based on my dissertation is under contract with Verso Books and will be published in 2023.

In my current position as a postdoctoral researcher in the DFF research project Drone Imaginaries and Communities, I continue my exploration into the cultural history of automation as it leads up to contemporary drones and artificial intelligences. My approach to automation studies is critically informed by materialist art history, theories of representation, and critiques of ideology. My most recent publication is called "Picasso's Drone" and is available at Boundary 2 online.

Together with Lila Lee-Morrison and Kathrin Maurer I am guest-editing a special issue of MAST (Journal of Media Art Study and Theory) on the topic "Automating Visuality," which will be published in April 2022.

With Mikkel Bolt Rasmussen, I am co-editor of an art historical book series in Danish called "repræsentationskritik" (Forlaget Antipyrine, 2021-2024)

Presently, I am working on an article about the German artist Hito Steyerl's immersive art work "Dance Mania" for a special issue of the Danish journal K&K.

Alongside these research activities, I am conducting researching for my next book project (working title: Toy Stories), which is about the pre-history and emergence of "smart toys" and other AI-powered gadgets in the domestic realm.
