Research areas

My research over the last two decades has evolved around markets, marketing and

consumer culture in a globalized world. My research been published in internationally recognized social science journals debating markets and consumption (e.g. Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Business Research, Consumption, Markets and Culture, Marketing Theory) and has been

informing research on global consumer culture in the marketing field and the social

sciences generally (see google scholar profile). The impact of my research has been awarded nationally (Tietgenprisen 2007) and internationally (e.g. my 2006 article on global youth

culture was republished in the 2016 40 year’s anniversary issue of the top consumer research journal, The Journal of Consumer Research, as the most impactful article of the 2006 issue). 

I have been editor-in-chief of the journal Consumption, Markets and Culture since 2016.

From 2009-2017 I served as head of the research group Consumption, Culture and Commerce at SDU – the largest and one of the strongest research groups in the socio-cultural understanding of consumption.

I have been employed as visiting professor internationally (Lund University, Gothenburg University and University of Lille/SKEMA) as well s served on dozens of PhD assessment committees internationally.

Currenly I serve on the HS-B assessment committee of the Swedish Research Council and is a member of the BFI subgroup 25.

Over the last years my research interests have increasinlgy been directed towards topics central to grand societal challenges such consumer cultures among migrants, the working poor, and consumer culture and climate change mitigation.
