Rational Pharmacotherapeutics

Research information

My research areas and interests are centred around complex drug treatment and interventions, rational pharmacotherapy, with a special focus on the sector transition from primary- to secondary care, crosssector collaborations, and equality in treatment. I initiated my career with researching long-term morbidity and -mortality among patients with severe infections, and shifted towards studying chronic diseases and treatment related to these (diabetes, chronic kidney disease, asthma, COPD). I have been using the Danish registers to assess adverse effects of drug therapy, and drug utilisation, using different epidemiological methods. The recent years my focus has shifted towards complex interventions among the multimorbid population, using Multidisciplinary Team Conferences as a tool. I am currently the main supervisor of a phd. student, researching the development and feasibility of MDTs in diabetes and multimorbidity.
In my clinical working life as a clinical pharmacologist, I have created and am leading a virtual polypharmacy outpatient clinic - Telefarmakologisk Ambulatorium. The outpatient clinic is the first virtual outpatient clinic in Denmark focusing on cross-collaboration between primary care physicians and hospital specialists to handle multimorbid patients with extreme polypharmacy. The outpatient clinic has recently been mentioned by the Danish Health Authorities as a solution to better organise treatment and followup of multimorbid patients in Denmark.
