I am a PhD candidate in economics under the supervision of Professors K. Borowiecki and F. Cinnirella at the Department of Business and Economics,  within the Historical Economics and Development Group (HEDG). As part of my PhD, thanks to external travel grants, I have spent a semester as a visiting student at the Department of Economic History at the London School of Economics. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Bocconi University, a Master’s degree from the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management and a Specialized Master’s degree in Management of the Performing Arts from SDA Bocconi. Before joining the PhD program at the SDU, I worked as a researcher at the Vrije Universitet Brussel on a policy report on the Cultural and Creative Economy in the Brussels-Capital Region.
My research lies at the intersection of the economics of arts and culture and of economic history. The projects composing my thesis center around three broad topics: The demand for the arts, the location choice of artists and the role of creativity in history. The first chapter of my thesis “Battle of the Ballet”, co-written with Alexander Wolf, has recently been published in the Journal of Cultural Economics. I am currently working on two additional projects. The first of these relates to changes in the labor market for musicians as a consequence of the advent of the radio in the 1920s. It draws heavily on extremely detailed US census data and instrumental variables gathered from other sources. The second project, co-authored with my supervisor Karol Borowiecki, exploits a rich dataset on classical composers and explores the relationship between originality, influence and success. All projects are described in more detail on my personal website.
