Personal profile

Research areas

Tangible Business Models: At SDU Design (2013-18) I pioneered research on how physical objects empower collaboration between stakeholders in innovation projects.

Video as Design Material: At the Mads Clausen Institute (2000-07) I innovated the use of field study video as ‘design material’ in action research in the industry. It is now a substantial research method documented in a series of publications and a monograph.

Research Interests

Participatory Innovation: In the strategic research centre SPIRE (2008-13), I directed six academic disciplines and a theatre group to advance our concept of ‘participatory innovation’ into a research field of its own right with a series of international conferences.

User-Centred Design: My early work with Danfoss Corporate Research (1992-99) became recognized internationally as a new concept of user-centred design that expands the Scandinavian participatory design tradition to manufacturing industry.
